Kick-Off Meeting of the RES2FIRE Project

Kick-Off Meeting of the RES2FIRE Project

The kick-off meeting of the partners of the “RES2FIRE” project, titled “Models and Tools for Enhancing the Resistance and Resilience to Wildfire in Natural Protected Areas and Wildland-Urban Interfaces”, was successfully held on November 26–27, 2024, in Potenza, Italy.

The project is coordinated by CGIAM – Centro di Geomorfologia Integrata per l’Area del Mediterraneo, with the TELNAS Lab (Laboratory of Telecommunication Networks and Advanced Services) of the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM) participating under the scientific guidance of Professor Malamati Louta, Vice Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs at UoWM. Partners from several Adriatic-Ionian countries, including Italy, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia, and Greece, are collaborating on the RES2FIRE project.

The RES2FIRE project aims to reduce the risk of forest fires and enhance the resilience of protected areas and wildland-urban interface zones. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of innovative tools and methodologies for wildfire prevention and management, addressing the growing challenges of climate change.

During the first day of the meeting, the project’s objectives and initial period activities were presented, with a focus on strengthening collaboration among participants for the exchange of knowledge and expertise. Following this, the Project Coordination Committee agreed on the activities for the second period, ensuring the project’s smooth implementation.

The project is implemented under the INTERREG VI-B ADRION 2021–2027 program and is co-financed by the European Union and national funds of participating countries.
